President's Letter, August 2012
Dear Fellow Thames Club Members,
As the end of summer approaches, I am very pleased to let you know that our Thames Club is growing in membership, and we are also growing the scope and breadth of our reciprocal club benefits. We have added 6 new member families since May, and we now share reciprocity with many more clubs.
Please join me in welcoming the following newly elected members to our club. In May, Russell Carr and his wife Vonice of New London were proposed by Brenda Kramer. I proposed Derron Wood for membership, who lives in New London. In June, Liz Morgan Baird, who lives in Waterford, was proposed by Peg O’Brien. Dr. Peter Molloy and his wife Joy, who live in Groton, were proposed for membership by Dr. David Hayes. Don Vendetto and his fiancée Sara were sponsored for membership by Janet Hinkle. Col. William Richmond and his wife Donna, who live in Old Saybrook, were proposed for membership by John Stratton. A special thank you is due to each sponsoring member, for their kind efforts to introduce the many benefits of Thames Club membership to our new members.
Tom Hogsten and his staff have worked very hard with Paula and myself to expand the list of clubs with which we enjoy reciprocity. Last year that list included 13 clubs in 5 states as well as Australia and England. As of today, we share reciprocity with a remarkable 54 clubs in 25 states in the U.S. These include The Pinnacle Club in Augusta GA, and the Union Club in Cleveland, The Marines Memorial Association in San Francisco, the Georgetown Club in Washington D.C., and many more. The full list is posted in the Club and is also available from Paula. You will soon be able to access the list from our website, www.thamesclub.org. Additional clubs are still being added each week. If you know of a club anywhere that you would like to be able to attend, please let Paula or myself know and we will endeavor to add them. If you will be travelling anytime soon, please consider visiting these clubs, and bringing back their best ideas for the Thames Club to consider.
Our club is now more secure thanks to the efforts of Brian Haagansen and Dave Goebel who worked with ADT to install an alarm system. The bugs are still being worked out as of this writing, but I am confident that those will be fixed soon. Please see Paula if you do not already have your access card or key fob for gaining entry to the club.
If you have not had the opportunity to meet our chef Jennifer Miller and sample her delicious culinary talents, please do so soon. I look forward to seeing you at our next club functions, which include First Friday on September 7th, Scotch and Cigar night on September 15th, and the Welcome Back Members brunch on September 23rd.
Again, thank you to each of our members who have proposed new members this year.
